When she left school, she worked as an inspector in the famous Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society’s Shoe Factory.

While living in the Dennistoun area of Glasgow she met Jimmy Armour.

Shortly after they married, the couple moved to East Kilbride in the 1950s where Margaret then became an inspector at Laird Porch.

Although the couple never had a family of their own, Margaret’s nieces remember fondly Margaret and Jimmy taking them to pantomimes, Kelvin Hall fairground and teatime treats at Wendy’s restaurant in Glasgow.

When they retired the couple moved to Lesmahagow and after Jimmy passed away six years ago Margaret continued to live there until earlier this year when she moved into the Douglas View Care Home in Hamilton after a brief spell in hospital.

Margaret has settled in very well into her new surroundings and marked her 100th birthday surrounded by family and care home staff.

Also joining Margaret to help celebrate her birthday was South Lanarkshire’s Depute Provost Celine Handibode, who presented Margaret with flowers and a certificate on behalf of the council.

And Deputy Lieutenant for Lanarkshire Dr William Morrison Young was also on hand to present them with a certificate from The King and Queen to mark her centenary.

And as an additional surprise she was also visited by a few primary school pupils from the nearby Beckford Primary School who presented her with a lovely, hand-crafted birthday card and a lovely bunch of sun flowers.
